Chris Hanlon: "The starting point for the image of 'Penumbra' was the back of a head of a Roman statue. There is a heightened sense of unreality, it is almost as if from another planet. The hair is nothing like hair, more like water or clouds, abstract and icy. Apocalypse was in mind. I imagined a shadow silently creeping over it after all life on earth had vanished."
