Chris Hanlon: "'Leaf' comes from a composite image of 3D mathematical models. These works are forms which arise out of chaos. To me it evokes the mystery of the universe, planets forming, and so on. I was interested in the possiblility of an abstraction becoming a thing, an impossible image which when described with paint almost becomes tangible. Something flat becoming something solid. I called it 'Leaf' obviously as the shape is leaf–like, but also because of the random way in which it has been formed much like the way every leaf is both different and unique while being recognisably a leaf."
